"What can I say?"
It's a common thought for me. What can I say that will help people understand the need... the opportunity... the absolute life changing experience that is mission work? If you have ever had your life changed by such an experience and then tried to explain it to others, you know what I mean. There is just no way to translate the experience into common terms. "It was awesome!" and "Lives were changed!" just don't do it justice. Those words just can't explain the pains and the fulfillment you physically felt in your heart. They can't relate how utter fatigue could ever be so rewarding. The smell of the dirt, the touch of a hurting hand, or the "Thank you," that you will never forget. The best pictures in the world are only shadows of these eternity changing memories.
"What can I do?"
That one is a little easier. I know what to do. I have the ability to invite other people to see for themselves. To experience the struggles and the successes. To see God face to face as He performs miracles through even the strangest of circumstances. To move from hearing to giving and from giving to going. To challenge people to move beyond interest and dive head first into involvement.
Mission work is experiential work. It involves getting your hands dirty in the harvest fields. The field may be next door or on the next continent. Either way, it requires our participation.
